Located in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Vertech International offers high-quality, reliable products to customers in a range of industries. A top contractor for United States defense organizations, Vertech International manufactures and engineers machine tools.
A manufacturing process, machining removes materials from a workpiece, giving it a more desirable shape. Different industries rely on different types of machine tools when doing this. Here are some of the most common types seen:
Turning: A lathe, or turning machine, rotates workpieces at high RPMs. Meanwhile, a stationary cutting tool shaves off excess material. The lathe is the father of all other machine tools since it dates back to the Egyptians and consists of many fundamental mechanical elements.
Grinding: When objects come into contact with a rotating abrasive wheel known as a grinding wheel or abrasive belt, unwanted material is ground away. An accurate process, grinding works on hard and soft parts with tolerances of 0.0001 inch.
Milling: A less accurate method of machining is milling. With milling machines, a multi-point cutting tool moves around a secure workpiece and removes unwanted material. Milling machines are available in many different types, such as bed-type machines and knee machines.
Drilling: Using a twist drive, drilling machines cut holes into metal. These machines also handle other hole-machining operations thanks to different cutting tools and attachments. Counterboring, boring, reaming, and countersinking are all done by drilling machines.
